Marist will try to win a second straight title at the Class AAAA boys’ tournament at Dalton Golf and Country Club in Dalton. The War Eagles qualified by winning the Region 6AAAA tournament at Stone Mountain Golf Course April 22.
The Lovett boys will be aiming for a state title at the AA competition at Rocky Creek Golf Club in Vidalia. The Lions earned their spot by winning the 6AA tournament at Dogwood Country Club in Austell April 22.
“I was proud of our golfers for winning the region tournament,” Lovett coach Greg Hyde said. “We’re excited about the opportunity to play in the state tournament and have been practicing diligently to prepare.”
The Westminster boys will try to win their third state title in four years in Class AA after qualifying with a second-place finish at the AA sectional competition at Blueberry Plantation in Alma last Friday.
The Wildcats barely missed a chance to qualify directly for state after finishing a close second to Lovett at the 6AA tournament.
Holy Innocents’ will be among the teams competing at the Class A private school tournament at Savannah Quarters Country Club in Pooler. The Golden Bears advanced to state by winning the 3A competition at Eagle’s Brook Golf Club in Locust Grove April 22.
“The boys had worked very hard through a lot of difficult conditions, with recurring cold and wet weather throughout the early spring season this year,” Holy Innocents’ coach Jim Griffin said. “We are hopeful that the extra practice time, without having to go through the sectional qualifying tournament and with the improving weather, the boys can keep improving their scores and maximize their performance in the state tournament — which we know is going to have some stiff competition.”
Galloway’s John Gabianelli qualified for the Class A private school boys’ tournament as an individual after earning low medalist honors with a score of 74 at the sectional tournament at Forest Hills Golf Club in August May 6.
The Scots finished 12th as a team.
Woodward, St. Pius X and Blessed Trinity will compete in the AAA boys’ tournament at Reunion Country Club in Hoschton.
The War Eagles earned their spot by winning the 6AAA tournament at Brookfield West Country Club in Roswell April 23. Blessed Trinity and St. Pius X qualified for the AAA sectionals after second- and third-place finishes, respectively, at the 6AAA tournament.
However, both teams secured spots in the state tournament after the sectional competition — originally scheduled for May 6 — was cancelled due to inclement weather.
On the girls’ side, Galloway and Holy Innocents’ are headed to the Class A private school girls’ competition at Crosswinds Golf Club in Savannah. Galloway and Holy Innocents’ qualified with second- and third-place finishes, respectively, at the sectionals at Goshen Plantation Golf Club in Augusta May 6.
Marist will participate in the AAAA girls’ tournament at Nob North Golf Course in Cohutta after qualifying with a ninth-place showing at the AAAA sectionals at Applewood Golf Course in Keysville.
Woodward is among the teams in the AAA girls’ tournament at Chateau Elan in Braselton. The War Eagles won the 6AAA competition at Brookfield West Country Club in Roswell April 23.
