Teams from all across the country will participate in weeklong tournaments, with the winners returning late August for the end-of-the-summer championship.
“They’re all jazzed about [going to Cooperstown],” Patmore said. “They’re very, very excited, because several of their buddies have played in it.”
Jim Cregge, a friend of Patmore’s and also Milton’s parks and recreation director, said his son went to Cooperstown Dreams Park as a youth baseball player about a decade ago and remembers the experience as one of the highlights of his childhood.
To participate in the event, the team must raise in excess of $12,000, Patmore said. He is helping organize a silent auction and dinner June 19 to contribute to the cause.
The dinner will be at Mambo Jambo Café on Windward Parkway in Alpharetta. Those wishing to participate in the fundraiser must make reservations in advance and specify they are coming for the “all-star dinner.”
The event is organized for adults only. The doors open at 5 p.m., seating for dinner is at 6:30 p.m., and the bidding for silent auction items will close at 8:30 p.m.
“Mambo Jambo is going to give some of the proceeds [from dinner] to the team [which will add to] any money that we raise from the silent auction,” Patmore said. “They’re great people. It’s a tremendous restaurant.”
Some of the silent auction items include a vacation condo, golf and tennis packages, autographed Olympic gold medalist soccer jerseys, restaurant certificates, baseball lessons, and Atlanta Braves tickets, including tickets to Chipper Jones’ jersey retirement at the June 28 Braves game.
“There are some nice prizes that people will want to participate in bidding for — and hopefully winning some as well — so that we can raise some money for the boys,” Patmore said.
He is hoping between the dinner and silent auction and the proceeds from last Sunday’s fundraiser at the Caffeine and Octane Car Show — also held at Mambo Jambo Café — the team will meet its financial goal.
