Angry Dragon Volleyball will host an open-air volleyball tournament, the ADV Dragon Slayer, at Honeysuckle Park in Doraville this Saturday, June 8, starting at 9 a.m.

“This is an opportunity for the entire Georgia volleyball community to get together in a nice atmosphere and continue to build our events throughout the summer,” said Sean Allen, founder and president of Atlanta Dragon Volleyball. “We’re going to have food and drinks for the participants and anyone is welcome to watch.”

ADV plans to host at least one tournament per month in Doraville during the summer, including Fourth of July weekend.

“Honeysuckle Park is a great location for us,” said Allen. “We have a good relationship with the entire staff. We’re going to hold multiple events here this summer and expect to have around 300 to 400 participants on Saturday.”

The adult players of the event will participate in either the men’s doubles, women’s doubles or co-ed fours bracket with up to $3,500 in prize money. There will also be a juniors’ division for boys’ and girls’ doubles separated within three categories: under-18, under-16 and under-14.

“Anytime we can get a positive program that is well attended, it allows residents from the surrounding communities in the north metro areas to come to our park,” said Rip Robertson, Director of Doraville Parks and Recreation. “The volleyball tournament will show our facilities to the attendees who may register for one of our other recreational programs that we may host for them as well as children at a later date.”

ADV tournaments are played on various surfaces including sand, grass and hard courts indoors during inclement weather. The group will also participate in volleyball events this summer in cities such as Columbia, S.C., Charlotte, N.C., and Lexington, Ky.

The Atlanta-based group will accept team registrations online at and the day of the event, on location, starting at 8 a.m.
