Buckhead Coalition announces Diplomatic Leadership Corps

In a news release, the Buckhead Coalition, a chamber-like, invitation-only organization of 100 CEOs, Monday announced its one-time program named the Diplomatic Leadership Corps.

It is a high-intensity, one-week introduction to business leadership for 25 Buckhead-area residents in the 25-year-old age bracket, in recognition of the coalition’s 25th anniversary. The program started Monday and ends Friday.

Introduced by coalition President and former Atlanta Mayor Sam Massell, the initial day consisted of the presentations on civic service/volunteerism by the Atlanta/Fulton League of Women Voters, public candidacy/government by the Georgia Municipal Association, vision stewardship/mentoring by It’s Time To Get Organized, fundraising/charities by the Georgia Center for Nonprofits and office politics/ethics by the Buckhead Business Association.

Four days of academic training follows the overall indoctrination. This consists of the adaptive leadership program conducted by Georgia State University’s J. Mack Robinson College of Business. Upon completion, a graduation certificate presentation reception concludes the program.

It was coordinated by coalition Director of Community Development Garth Peters. The cost budgeted is at about $123,400, but is being provided free to the applicants chosen.

“We attribute the success the Buckhead community enjoys to leadership from all quarters — 41 neighborhood organizations, 34 religious congregations, 13 parent-teacher associations, nine civic/service clubs and others,” coalition Chairman Dave Fitzgerald said. “With this new class of 25, we provide insurance for the future.”

Massell added, “I hope they will all start by getting involved as volunteers in the upcoming Atlanta city elections, which will be a good way to test the public-private partnerships studied.”
