The 2013 Craft Beer Festival and 5K Road Race combines two popular activities — staying fit and drinking beer — while raising money for Canine Assistants.
Residents are invited to participate in the festivities Saturday beginning from 6 to 11:30 p.m.
Along with the 5K Race, starting at 8 p.m., will be live entertainment, food for purchase from Olde Blind Dog Irish Pub, and more than 100 craft beers to choose from.
“We hope that people are able to sit back with their friends to talk about the race and enjoy the camaraderie of creating a healthy environment,” said Bob Marinich, event coordinator and race director.
Marinich said he wants people to celebrate their community at this all-ages event.
For non-drinkers and kids, there will be soda and other beverages.
The purpose of the event is not only to bring the community together for a good time, but to raise money and awareness for Canine Assistants in Milton.
Marinich has been a long-time donor and said he enjoys supporting them in any way.
Performing during the festival will be the Salty Road Band, a cover band that plays popular music of a variety of genres from the 60s to today.
The festival will also feature fire dancers and fire breathers before the race.
It wasn’t until 2011 that the city of Alpharetta changed their stance on alcohol downtown.
According to Marinich, it can be challenging to get the city on board when alcohol is involved, but regulations have been set and it will be a safe environment for all.
Purchase of a $10 ticket includes a souvenir glass to be used during the event.
Tickets for beer are $1 each for four ounces.
For those who wish to participate in the race, tickets are now $35, which includes a free beer and T-shirt.
“I’m extremely excited for this event. We have been thinking about it for the last four years,” Marinich said. “It really is a good opportunity to showcase downtown Alpharetta and all it can be.”
Race-day registration begins at 6 p.m., and the race, which starts at 8 p.m., begins and ends at the corner of Milton Avenue and Roswell Street.
