According to Hapeville Director of Parks and Recreation Tod Nichols, it closed before he started working for the city in 2002.

But he is familiar with the situation, he said.

“It was because of a safety issue. They were unable to keep the water chlorinated at a safe level. They had problems getting it past inpsections. It was always a maintenance concern,” Nichols said.

A secondary factor was financial.

“They also had problems with funding and staffing. They closed it and were going to reopen it as funds became available. Of course, funds haven't become available yet so it hasn't reopened yet but the area is still there,” Nichols said.
