Input needed on spending $1M in HUD funds

Henry County residents are encouraged to attend and participate in the second public hearing for the Community Development Block Grant program, funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Commissioners must decide how to allocate nearly $1 million.

The hearing is July 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Administration Building, 140 Henry Parkway in McDonough.

The 2013 allocation is $971,360, about $121,000 more than in 2012.

The proposed activities include the funding of public services, housing rehabilitation, public facilities and infrastructure improvements and program administration.

The county anticipates expending its 2013 allocation as follows:

 Public facilities/infrastructure improvements: $471,384

 City of Hampton storm water improvements: $113,000

 City of Stockbridge community pool: $150,000

 Municipalities: $208,384

 Housing assistance: $160,000

 Public services: $145,704

 Planning and administration: $194,272


 Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity: $160,000

 Connecting Henry: $49,704

 Hands of Hope Clinic: $30,000

 A Friend’s House: $30,000

 Haven House: $36,000

The draft Annual Action Plan establishes the proposed use of these funds.

Citizens and other interested parties are encouraged to review the draft plan and submit their written comments during the public comment period, which has been extended through July 12 at 5 p.m.
