The event is not like the average golf tournament, he said.
“The course is a par 3 course,” he said. “You will pick one club out of your bag to play the entire nine-hole [tournament].”
The idea behind the event is to provide an opportunity for members to get to know each other better outside of the regular monthly meetings, Broadway said.
“We hope to have 30 to 40 people come out and just have some fellowship among our members,” he said. “We had always wanted to do a golf tournament.”
The tournament will begin at 2:30 p.m. at River Pines Golf Course on Old Alabama Road and will lead into the association’s monthly after-hours membership meeting, which will be held at River Pine’s clubhouse at 5:30 p.m.
Tickets are $15, which includes admission to the membership meeting for non-association members, Broadway said.
The tournament is not the only new event for the association this year. The association organized the first Brew Moon SummerFest in June and will host its inaugural business expo Aug. 29 at the Alpharetta Marriott on Windward Parkway. The organization also added a business breakfast series this year, which is held the first Tuesday of every month, Broadway said.
He said the association has grown significantly since it changed its name two years ago from the Downtown Alpharetta Trade Association and expanded its focus to include businesses located outside of downtown.
A membership drive is currently underway for the organization to educate non-members about the association’s mission, while working to retain current members, Broadway said.
“We’re all about growing the economy of Alpharetta and the opportunities here,” he said.
