Paulding County's “IndepenDance at the Pole Barn” Fourth of July event scheduled for Saturday at Taylor Farm Park has been cancelled, Cpl. Ashley Henson, public relations officer, said in news release. The commissioners will reschedule the event for a later date, he said.
In Douglasville, inclement weather forecast for Thursday prompted city officials today to cancel the city's annual Fourth of July parade and postpone the fireworks display until Labor Day, according to a press release from the city.
"The current and immediate future weather conditions have played a major part in the decision process regarding cancellation of July 4 activities for the city of Douglasville," officials stated in the release.
“The safety and welfare of our citizenry is important to us at City Hall, and as it has been experienced in prior years, significant amounts of rainfall can lead to tragic conditions for travel, City Manager Bill Osborne said in a statement.
"With flash flood conditions existing for the day, we believe this is the best decision to make regarding the overall welfare of our community."
The fireworks display will be rescheduled for Labor Day. Other cancellations include the O'Neal Plaza concert scheduled for Thursday night.
Activities for the annual Festival in the Park, scheduled from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Douglasville’s Hunter Park, are scheduled to go on as scheduled inside the park’s community center, said SHARE House spokeswoman Pat Garner.
