“This year we have added … ‘Stock the Pantry’ [to the event],” she said. “We have a food drive each year to support North Fulton Community Charities. Normally our food drive lasts a week, but this time we decided that it’s going to be a one-day event and our collection time will be at our Summer Jam.”
The chamber is encouraging attendees to bring nonperishable food items, such as cereal, canned tuna, canned chicken, canned fruit, beans, peanut butter, soup, tomato products, boxed macaroni and cheese and Hamburger Helper. Diapers in sizes four to six are also needed.
“One of the reasons that we hold our food drive in the summer time is that it’s when the food supply is at its lowest,” Plotkin said. “Children are out of school so they do not get the lunches that they normally would get during the school season.”
Those bringing items for donation will be entered into a raffle for door prizes, including Verizon Wireless Amphitheater tickets, Atlanta Braves tickets and gift certificates.
“The more food that they bring, the more door prize opportunities they have,” she said.
Those without pantry donations can also purchase tickets for door prizes.
The money collected will go directly to North Fulton Community Charities, Plotkin said.
Aside from the food drive component, Summer Jam is a business networking opportunity for professionals in north Fulton. There will be music and food from local restaurants and caterers.
“[Summer Jam is] an opportunity for us all to get together and share who we are and talk about our business and get to know each other,” she said. “One of the things that we concentrate on [at the chamber] is building relationships. This is a great way to do it in a casual environment.”
The event is open to chamber members and nonmembers alike, and admission is $10. Summer Jam will be at the chamber at 11605 Haynes Bridge Road, Building 400, Suite 100, in Alpharetta on July 24 from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
