The Johns Creek Aquatic Team had a stellar showing at the Georgia Recreation and Park Association’s Class A State Championships from July 25 to 27 at the Frances Meadows Aquatic and Community Center in Gainesville, including several individual and relay team winners.

Kati Koutrelakos placed first in the Girls 15-18 50-Yard Butterfly with a time of 27.60 seconds.

She was also part of the victorious JCAT squad in the Girls 18U 200-Yard Free Relay, whose time of 1:48.43 was good enough for first place.

The team was comprised of Rachel Kruger, Rachel Williams, Holley Riddle and Kourtrelakos.

The same quartet also finished third in the 200-Yard Medley Relay.

Drew Whitmoyer won the Boys 13-14 50-Yard Fly, posting a time of 25.87 seconds to earn the victory.

He also placed third in the Boys 13-14 50-Yard Backstroke.

The Boys 14U 20-yard Free Relay team of Jordan Klustner, Reed Carlson, Kenneth Chen and Whitmoyer finished second in the competition with a time of 1:37.97.

JCAT’s third team to win a relay event, the Boys 10U 100-Yard Medley Relay, posted a time of 1:03.09 and included Anthony Margarite, Andrew Simmons, Carson Kennedy and Luke Riley.

The same unit finished second in the 100-Yard Free Relay at a time of 55.44.

Kennedy placed third in the Boys 9-10 25 Yard Butterfly, finishing less than a second off the lead with a time of 14.56 seconds.

Other top-five individual finishes for JCAT included Simmons placing fourth in the 25-yard breaststroke, Katie Wong going fifth in the girls 9-10, 25-yard butterfly, Riddle placing second in the 50-yard free, Kirill Korygin posting a fourth place standing in the boys 15-18 50-yard backstroke and Annie Chen finishing fifth in the girls 13-14 50-yard breaststroke.

The boys relay team of Sean Long, Kyle Craig, John Caras and Korygin placed fifth in the boys 18 and under 200 yard free relay.

Each swimmer qualified for the state-wide meet at the Atlanta Swim Association Championship meet that took place on June 28 at Georgia Tech.

The top three designated finishers at each event during the ASA meet that showed intent to swim for the JCAT qualified for the squad, along with up to 12 of the top freestyle finishers in each age group who may qualify for relay teams.

Each member of the JCAT is a Johns Creek resident between the ages of 7 to 18 and practices were held at the Seven Oaks neighborhood community swimming pool.
