Douglasville stores proved themselves very lucky for two Georgia Lottery winners recently.

A Douglasville woman landed a $1 million Powerball prize from the Aug. 3 drawing, according to a release from the Georgia Lottery

Trena Tusinski matched the first five numbers, winning a $1 million prize.

Tusinski, who works in medical imaging, claimed her prize Aug. 6 at Georgia Lottery headquarters in Atlanta. Shell Food Mart, 4081 Anneewakee Road in Douglasville, sold the winning ticket.

“I was on my way to my second job when I stopped for a ticket,” Tusinski explained. “I asked the clerk to scan the ticket I already had. She paused and said, ‘This one is a winner!’”

The lucky winner was in shock.

“I grabbed my phone and called my sister,” Tusinski said. “I was shouting, ‘I just hit the Powerball.’”

Having worked a second job for five years, Tusinski intends to pamper herself.

“I want to pay off bills, buy a new house, help my family and buy a new car,” she shared. “I’m going to invest, but I want to treat myself for working hard.”

Meanwhile, a stop in Douglasville rendered a large Georgia Lottery win for a middle Georgia woman. Fairburn Food Store, located at 2741 Fairburn Road in Douglasville, sold a 100X The Money instant ticket with a $100,000 prize to Frances Norris of Dublin.

Norris claimed her prize July 30 at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Macon.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $14.6 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.6 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
