The A5 Volleyball club team, based in Roswell, concluded its season in Dallas at the USA Volleyball National Championships in early July.

Mason Rooney concludes the chronicle of her team, 16-1 Jackie though the event. In the last post, Rooney documented the third day of the tournament and her team split two contests.

Conclusion

Today was our last day at the tournament and I feel like I should talk about the core foundations of our season, dedication and discipline, to wrap up my blog. Those were two of our main focuses this season. We trained for thirty-three weeks, practicing three or more times a week for an average of three hours per practice. Each girl on our team also puts in work on her own to continue improving. We practice on our own at VolleyPerformance (a local skills development program), lift, run, some of us cross train and others have to work hard in rehab to get back on the court.

As a symbol of dedication and discipline to each other we decided at the beginning of the season to give up soft drinks and chips for the year. We used this to show our dedication to prepare and to each other. Our dedication and discipline paid off this week as we finished in the top-twenty out of 152 teams in our age group.

We ended up finishing nineteenth after losing a hard match to Skyline from Houston. We lost both sets, 25-22 and 25-20. Jocelyn Mahayag was able to play in this match and it t was awesome to get to see her back on the court!

The MAVS, based out of Kansas, won the tournament. The MAVS only lost twice during the season and ironically we earned our bid for Nationals by beating them at Big South in March. I have loved this season and can’t wait for tryouts to roll back around in November!
