After claiming a couple of state championships in track and field last spring, Westminster’s Jordan Flowers is now looking to add another one in cross country.

The senior, who won the Class AA 1,600- and 3,200-meter run titles at the state meet in May, got his cross country season off to a solid start after winning the boys’ race at the Kosh Classic at Westminster Aug. 16.

Flowers crossed the finish line first with a time of 18 minutes, 16.77 seconds, placing 17 seconds ahead of teammate Graham Huff (18:33.40).

It is only the first step for Flowers in regaining the AA boys’ individual cross country title that he won in 2011 after placing fourth last year.

“We’re spoiled with Jordan in the sense that he’s a very tough, very sharp guy who happens to be a very good runner,” Westminster assistant coach Geoffrey Sudderth said. “So having him at the top to lead the way is something that makes you feel good going into the season.”

Flowers was also state champion in the 1,600 and runner-up in the 3,200 in AA at the state track meet as a sophomore in ’11.
