Fire breaks out at East Point storage facility

An early morning fire Sept. 2 at the Public Storage Facility located at 1790 E. Woodbury Avenue in East Point is being investigated. The call came in at 3:01 a.m. and East Point fire units arrived on scene seven minutes later at 3:08 a.m.

Upon arrival, heavy fire was seen coming through the roof of a building. Upon closer examination, it was determined that 15 storage units were fully involved, out of a building of 68 units.

Fire crews immediately, secured a water source and swiftly battled the flames. The fire was knocked down at 5:32 a.m.

A total of 41 units were damaged: 33 by fire, another eight sustained smoke and/or water damage.

East Point dispatched three engines, and one ladder truck, which included: ENG-2, ENG-3, ENG-4, and Tower-3.

In addition, one command vehicle, Car 901, Car 13, as well as Public Information Officer Renita Shelton were dispatched, for a total of 17 East Point fire personnel on the scene.

Atlanta Fire dispatched one truck and one engine for a total of eight fire personnel on scene; and Hapeville Fire dispatched one truck staffed by three fire personnel, for a grand total of 28 fire personnel at the scene.

Rural Metro Ambulance and East Point Police were also on the scene. There were no injuries to fire personnel.
