The Tucker football team has begun the season with two dominant victories that has placed the Tigers in the position of making another strong postseason run and bringing the third state championship to the program in six years.

The Tigers began the season with a 51-12 victory over Cedar Grove led by the efforts of Dominick Sanders. He had three total touchdowns in the contest with the first one coming on a 56-yard punt return for the score. Sanders gained his second touchdown of the first quarter courtesy of a 52-yard run. Earlier in the half, he had a 60-yard punt return for a touchdown negated because of a Tucker holding penalty.

Sanders’ final touchdown was on a seven-yard run in the second quarter. He finished the game with 58 yards rushing, one tackle on defense and even averaged more than 32 yards on three punt attempts.

Joseph Farrar, Elijah Sullivan and Myles Donaldson also had one rushing touchdown in the season opener.

The Tigers continued the dominance with a resounding 75-0 victory over North Atlanta in Tucker’s Region 6-AAAAA opener. It was the second highest number of points ever scored by a Tucker team in a contest.

Seven different players scored for Tucker with Sanders leading the charge with two rushing touchdowns and a punt return for a score. Stephen Reynolds returned a kickoff for a score and rushed for another. Tommy Renfroe, Raquan Rush, Jessie Felts and Sullivan also had a rushing touchdown for Tucker. Farrar threw a TD pass to Detrick Dukes for the other score.

The 126 combined points that the Tigers have scored through the first two games of the 2013 season are a record.

Tucker finished last season with 10 wins but three losses, including a close 23-20 loss to Northside.

The Tigers will return to action on Friday against Arabia Mountain in another region contest. Tucker defeated the Rams 39-20 in the last meeting back in 2012.
