“This is a big win for the program and the girls,” Centennial head coach Billy Kirk said. Centennial’s last victory came on Oct. 4, 2010 in a 5-1 win over Alpharetta.
The victory will now become a landmark in the construction of the Centennial softball program to build upon. “We knew that there would be struggles this year and told the parents that we’re going to be a young team,” Kirk stated, noting that there are four freshman in the Knights’ starting lineup featuring April Gaffney, Kaylin Berinhout and Lauren Amaru along with Gottlieb. “The team has played hard and we’ve been competitive in our contests but just haven’t finished games.”
Centennial hopes to continue the positive progress on Thursday at South Forsyth.
“The girls have been making plays and bought into what we’re doing as a program,” Kirk said. “Winning is addictive and with hard work and preparation, the team is going to want another victory. Centennial has good programs in other sports and we’re trying to make softball legitimate here.”
