At its meeting Wednesday, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners named Dwight Ferrell to serve as county manager, effective Oct. 7, at a salary of $240,000 per year with overall compensation not to exceed $260,000.

Ferrell comes to Fulton County after a long career in public service. He served most recently as deputy general manager and chief operating officer of MARTA, a position he held for four years. In that role he was responsible for managing a budget of more than $430 million for an organization of more than 5,000 employees. In his role with MARTA, he worked directly with Fulton County and other government partner agencies.

He previously held leadership positions with the Capital Metropolitan Transit Authority in Austin, Texas, the Regional Transit Authority of New Orleans, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority in Philadelphia, and Dallas Area Rapid Transit. He is a graduate of Huston-Tilloston University in Austin, and is involved with numerous professional organizations in the area of public administration.

“I know that Mr. Mr. Ferrell will serve the citizens of this county with distinction during an important time of transition,” Fulton County Commission Chairman John H. Eaves said of the appointment. “I look forward to working with him in leading Fulton County into the future.”

The county manager is appointed by the board of commissioners to administer Fulton County government. Fulton County Attorney R. David Ware has served as interim county manager since Jan. 1.
