The bigger the stakes the better Woodward Academy senior Terry Googer is bound to perform.

Against Westminster on Sept. 20, Googer ran for 190 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries and passed for 94 yards and another score in a 30-15 victory.

“I played real loose because it was a big game,” Googer said. “I don't know why but in big games I play real loose and go back to the way I know I should play.”

The win was Woodward’s third straight in the series. However, the War Eagles were unable to win their fourth straight game this season due to a 27-17 loss to Blessed Trinity last Friday. Googer scored a touchdown in the War Eagle’s first Region 6-AAA setback of the season.

Woodward will try to bounce back against Decatur this week and move closer toward a sixth consecutive postseason appearance.

“I want to get further than what we’ve been doing at state, end on a great note,” Googer said. “I want to go to the Dome for my last year.”

When Googer’s football career at Woodward ends, his playing days will continue at South Carolina, where he is expected to play wide receiver.

“I chose South Carolina because of location,” said the 6-foot-4 Googer. “I didn’t want to be that far from home. It was the perfect place for me.”
