The Paulding County Board of Commissioners last week voted to approve construction of two new pavilions and renovation of an existing pavilion at a cost of $467,497. The project will be funded through recreation special purpose local option sales tax.
County government services director Chuck Rann said White Oak, located off Villa Rica Highway in south Paulding, is one of the busiest parks in the county.
“There is a demand for pavilion rental,” he said.
Parks and Recreation Director Michael Justus said the enclosed pavilion currently at the park is “constantly booked.”
On average it is booked six months in advance, he said.
The improvements to the current 6,415-square-foot pavilion include building renovations, drainage improvements and landscaping. More bathrooms will be added, and improvements are planned to septic systems.
The new, wood-framed pavilions will be about 2,280 and 936 square feet. Construction will take about 120 days to complete once they receive the notice to proceed, which should be approved by next week, officials said.
The Paulding Department of Transportation also paved the formerly gravel parking lot, Rann said. Justus said the new lot is about double in size.
White Oak is located at 298 Mustang Drive, off Villa Rica Highway (Ga. Hwy. 61).
