Stone Mountain has won two of its first four games of the season with the continued emergence on a state-wide level of senior quarterback Corderal Cook.

He’s tied for the most touchdown thrown in DeKalb county with nine and second in passing yards with 820. Even more impressive for Cook is that he’s thrown only two interceptions while leading the Pirates to the second-best total offense in the county, averaging more than 423 yards per contest.

“Corderal is a quiet leader,” Stone Mountain head coach Dante Ferguson. “He’s physically strong, built and has good arm strength.”

Cook has been starting for the Pirates at quarterback since his tenth grade season. Last year, he finished the 2012 campaign with 17 touchdown passes and was named to the All-Region team. The coaching staff believes that the rest of this season can be even better.

“Corderal has gotten better since last year in strength and his knowledge of the game,” Ferguson said. “He’s still improving as a player.”

Cook hopes to get the Pirates into the playoffs for the second time in three years. “We have the chance to make the postseason if we take it one game at a time and control our own destiny,” Ferguson said.

Stone Mountain will return to action on Friday at home against Lithonia in the Region 6-AAAAA opener for both teams.

The Pirates dropped last season’s contest 34-20.
