The public schools of Fulton County participated at the cross country championships hosted by Milton High School on Sept. 21.

In the Girls’ varsity competition, Northview’s Lindsay Billings won the event, finishing with a time of 20:30.30 in the 5K race. The rest of the top five was Roswell’s Rachel VanAmburgh (20:52.70), Maddy Peterson of Centennial (20:58.10), Anna Hayden and Northview’s Anna Barefield (21:31.00). Centennial won the team competition, with Northview and Milton placing second and third.

“Fulton County allows let us compete with our neighboring schools such as Milton and Roswell,” Centennial head coach Robert White said. “It was a chance to against them in a meet that is similar to the size of our region meet and nice to finally beat them.”

Roswell earned the Boys’ varsity competition by placing the top two runners, Drew Kelley (18:01.63) and Brandon Tardif (18:03.53) in the event. Josh Salter (18:06.45) of Northview, Milton’s Clay Marshall (18:10.79) and Bjorn Leicher of Cambridge (18:20.98) rounded out the top-five.

Milton’s junior varsity teams won both the boys and girls competitions which propelled the Eagles to the overall program award for the meet. Milton has won seven best overall program awards in the past ten years and it was the Eagles’ fourth consecutive title.

“This meet gets the team in championship mode,” Milton head coach Andy Carr said. “The outcome of the team takes priority over each person’s individual times and goals. This makes the team look at the big picture of making it to the state meet.”
