Often referred to as “the Masters of college golf,” the USCC has in eight years become the most prestigious event on the schedule and is regularly voted on by the players as their favorite tournament.
Five teams among the top nine on the Golf Coaches Association Pre-Season Poll will be competing in this year’s USCC, including No. 4 Georgia Tech, No. 5 Washington, No. 6 UCLA, No. 8 Oklahoma State and No. 9 Stanford. Of the 15 teams in the field, 10 are ranked among the top 22. The field is rounded out by Duke (15), Auburn (16), Texas A&M (19), Southern Cal (20), Kent State (22), Virginia, Clemson, Iowa, Wake Forest and East Tennessee State.
“We are thrilled to have the U.S. Collegiate Championship in Alpharetta where numerous college teams compete at our own Golf Club. We are proud to support the event this year,” said Janet Rodgers, President and CEO of the Alpharetta Convention and Visitors Bureau. “With so much happening in Alpharetta that weekend, including concerts at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park, players and spectators will have an awesome time exploring Alpharetta.”
The tournament’s primary charity is the Folds of Honor Foundation, which provides scholarships for children of American service persons killed or wounded in battle. Saturday’s second round this year will honor the Susan G. Komen for the Cure and Breast Cancer Awareness, with competitors wearing pink.
Tournament tickets are complimentary and can be reserved by calling The Golf Club of Georgia at 770-664-8644. Parking is also complimentary and located near the Club, with a free shuttle to the course. Visit theuscc.org for details.
