To go along with good pitching, a softball team needs solid hitting and defense to be successful. Eagle’s Landing Christian sophomore Abigail Rogers handles those last two necessities well.

Rogers has been one of the team’s best hitters and run producers this season.

“I just try to wait until a strike comes and not just swing at anything the pitcher throws,” Rogers said. “I just wait until I see the pitch I want.”

Rogers has also been reliable at third base, helping the Lady Chargers record 12 shutouts this year.

“I like how it is a hot spot so you get a lot of stuff coming at you pretty fast so you just got to react to it,” she said.

For the second straight year, ELCA earned perfect back-to-back records in Region 5-A competition and won the region tournament again as well.

“We just put in a lot of hard work and dedication,” Rogers said. “And we never quit no matter what.”

Now, the Lady Chargers are preparing to make another strong postseason run and at least make the Final Four in Columbus, if they don’t win the state title.

“Last year was our first year so we kind of went there not knowing what to expect,” Rogers said. “But this year we know what to expect and have a different mindset.”
