With the Nov. 5 general municipal election getting closer, the Neighbor asked candidates their take on why they are seeking election and what they hope to accomplish.
Below are responses from the candidates for the Stone Mountain City Council District 1 Post 1 seat.

Steve Higgins, 65 [incumbent]
Occupation: Sales for moving and relocation
Residency: 12 years
Why did you decide to run for re-election?
“I’m running for re-election in order to complete some of the ongoing projects.”
How long have you occupied this seat?
“Two terms — eight years.”
What are your top goals you would like to accomplish if re-elected?
-Complete present projects such as our streetscape projects
-Recruit businesses for the city/economic development
-Complete the Urban Development Plan and at least a portion of our LCI project.
Where would you like to see the city in 10 years?
“Citizens have mentioned a city school at some point and I would support that if it can be done.”

Diana Roe Hollis
Occupation: Risk manager
Residency: more than 30 years
Why did you decide to run for this post? “Friends and neighbors asked me to put my love and concern for the city into action.”
What are your top goals you would like to accomplish if elected? “Balance the budget without borrowing or spending future year revenues, repair the infrastructure, encourage small business and more retail shops.”
Where would you like to see the city in 10 years?
“I would like to see the city debt free with surplus revenue, our infrastructure in good repair and bustling with visitors to our retail shops and historic sites.”
