“Before the play happened, I told Joe to throw me the ball,” Lundie said. “I gave him a look before the ball was hiked telling him to just give it to me. He rolled around, threw it to me and I jumped up and caught it.”
The pass Lundie caught was a 35-yard lob from Farrar into the end zone with 13 seconds left to eventually give the Tigers a thrilling 31-28 victory over Stephenson on Oct. 11 in a Region 6-AAAAA classic.
“It was crazy,” Lundie said. “I felt like it was bound to happen. It was meant for me to catch it because it came right to me.”
“The plan was just to run streaks and throw the ball to the guy who we felt had the best chance to make a play and that is kind of what happened,” Tucker coach Bryan Lamar said.
Lundie’s catch also trumped a 38-yard TD pass from Stephenson’s Giovanni Weekly to Ari Werts with 21 seconds remaining.
“This was the first time we really needed to throw the ball,” Lundie said. “When we needed to I took advantage of it and it was a big deal for me because I know everybody who plays for Stephenson.”
