In recognition of Veterans Day, the CFA Society of Atlanta is facilitating a presentation by two distinguished disabled veterans on how Atlanta financial services firms can hire men and women who have returned from war zones with permanent injuries.

The society, the largest financial professional organization in Georgia, presents Doing Well by Doing Good — Helping Veterans Enter Our Profession Nov. 6 from noon to 2 p.m. at The Buckhead Club, 3344 Peachtree Road.

The conflicts of the last decade are unlike any other in American history. Due to the nature of the conflict involving the use of roadside bombs, and mitigated by excellent medical attention which allows the injured to survive the battlefield, roughly one quarter of those who have served are returning home with a permanent disability. Now they are attempting to re-enter society and take on meaningful employment to support their families and maintain their dignity.

The nonprofit Wall Street Warfighters Foundation provides a six-month training program to identify, develop and place service disabled veterans in careers in the financial services industry. Both of the speakers graduated from this program and now work in financial services.

Navy Lt. Cal Quinn is a Naval Academy grad and gridiron star and served in Afghanistan in the month immediately after 9/11. Injured on the battlefield, he faced a long recovery, graduated from the training program and has now undertaken a successful second career in equities. Army Staff Sgt. Jerry Majetich suffered severe injuries after being targeted by Al Qaeda in Iraq and having his Humvee attacked by an improvised explosive device.

He was awarded the Purple Heart by President George W. Bush and enrolled in the Wall Street Warfighters Training program. Today, he is a financial services professional working out of his hometown of Jacksonville, Fla.
