If anyone on the Locust Grove volleyball roster knows about sacrifice, it’s junior setter and middle hitter Devon Dickey.

“It’s a very big adjustment because I train for more than half the year at playing outside then I come here and adjust for three months to play middle and setter,” Dickey said.

“Devon has adjusted a lot this year,” Locust Grove volleyball coach Nita Gilbert said. “Everything that we’ve asked her to do she has done and done it to the best of her ability. That is all you can ask from an athlete.”

But Dickey’s sacrifice had a nice little payoff overall for the Lady Wildcats since they advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time in program history with a 3-0 victory over Perry on Oct. 22.

“We just had a lot of energy and we were excited and ready to play,” Dickey said. “We didn’t want to go home or lose in our own gym.”

Unfortunately, that win was the Lady Wildcats’ last of the season due to a 3-0 shortcoming to Marist last Saturday.

Now Dickey, who has a 3.5 GPA, will shift back to her regular position of outside hitter with A-5 South.

As far as college volleyball, Dickey would like to play and has her eye on West Georgia at the moment.
