This week the Sandy Springs Police Department made progress in three unrelated cases, Capt. Steve Rose, the department’s spokesman, said in a set of emails to the media.

Monday, the department announced it arrested a man after he attempted to run down an officer with a stolen car just before 7 p.m. Monday in the area of 5600 Roswell Road.

Crime suppression team members attempted to arrest the suspect in a stolen car when he fled, striking at least two police vehicles and almost hitting an officer. The officer fired his weapon at the oncoming car.

A white male who was later determined to be the suspect was treated at Emory St. Joseph’s Hospital for a gunshot wound to his leg. His injuries are non-life-threatening and he will remain in custody. No other injuries were reported. The suspect’s name was withheld Monday but he was identified Wednesday as Collin Lee Daves. Late Tuesday night, Daves was transported from the hospital to the Fulton County Jail, Rose said. Daves is recovering from a gunshot wound to the leg from an officer who was nearly run down by the eluding vehicle.

Wednesday, the department issued criminal warrants for Joseph Thompson, 25, for the Oct. 14 shooting of a man at the Tailfeathers Piano Bar, 5975 Roswell Road, just after 2 a.m. According to the police, Thompson and the victim, Rodriguez Price, got into a fight in the bar. Thompson later approached Price in the parking lot and shot him several times, Rose said. Price is recovering from the wounds.

Thompson has knowledge of the warrants and is considered a fugitive from justice, Rose said. He is considered armed and dangerous. The warrants charge Thompson with aggravated battery, aggravated assault and weapons charges.

He is 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighs 280 pounds.

Anyone with information as to his whereabouts is asked to contact Detective M. Tuvlin at (770) 551-3312, the department at (770) 551-6900 or the department tip line at (770) 551-3300.

Also Wednesday, the department’s hit and run investigators arrested 34-year-old John Tyler Smith of Sandy Springs in connection with Sunday’s hit and run accident that brought down a traffic light pole on Roswell Road at Glenridge Drive, causing traffic delays for several hours while crews worked to repair the light, Rose said.

Smith is charged with reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, striking a fixed object and failure to report. Smith was arrested and taken to the Alpharetta Jail for booking.
