The holiday sales event, hosted by the Sandy Springs Society Saturday and Sunday, has progressively generated its fair share of buzz since its inception three years ago.
“Each year we have grown our shopping base and we’re happy that Elegant Elf is becoming a favorite community tradition here in Sandy Springs, said event co-chair Kathy Shapiro.
“And, each year we attract returning vendors who’ve had a successful and enjoyable experience with us as well as new vendors who are excited to be a part of it.”
Elegant Elf has now taken up residence at Lake Forest Elementary School. Sporting an atmosphere akin to a bustling bazaar, its collective of “unique, high-quality vendors” is offering wares ranging from fine art to hand-crafted jewelry to special holiday food, ornaments and crafts.
Organizers are hoping to attract between 3,000 and 4,000 shoppers this go-round — roughly double last year’s attendance.
Pulling off such an endeavor is no small feat.
“It requires managing a lot of moving pieces at once and manning a volunteer staff of 400 to 500 people for the weekend,” said event co-chair Laurie Gilbert.
“We have been very happy with the support our community businesses have given us this year, which is enabling us to underwrite a large potion of the event costs — allowing us to have the money the public contributes go to our non profit grant program.”
Moreover, one hundred percent of the Elegant Elf proceeds go directly back to the Sandy Springs community via grants to over 20 local non-profits centered on children, education, the environment, the arts and heritage preservation among others.
Organizers’ choice of venue might best be characterized as a gateway of sorts.
“We’re taking advantage of this opportunity, too, to throw a spotlight on all of our great local public schools,” said Shapiro.
“All have been invited to take part in Elegant Elf in various ways that will allow them to fundraise or showcase their students’ achievements.”
Tickets are available at the door for $5.
