The Fellowship Christian sophomore finished fifth in the Class A private school girls’ race with a time of 19 minutes, 42.60 seconds at the state meet Nov. 9.
“She did an excellent job at the state meet,” Fellowship cross country coach Ryan Walter said. “She has been very determined and focused on her racing goals throughout the season. She knows the courses, the competition and she trains as hard as any runner I have coached before.
“At the state meet itself, Emma Grace challenged the top spots for much of the early part of the race. I am certain she gave every ounce of effort she could to the competition and she left the field without regrets.”
Hurley earned her trip to Carrollton by winning the girls’ race at the Region 6A meet in Rome with a time of 18:53.73.
She also claimed a first-place finish (19:16.67) at the Our Lady of Mercy Invitational in Fairburn Aug. 24 as well as a runner-up result (20:25.21) at the Wesleyan Invitational in Norcross Sept. 7, with a third-place result (19:00.73) at the Warpath Invitational in Canton Sept. 13 another season highlight.
