The Holy Innocents’ senior – who signed a swimming letter-of-intent with Southern Methodist last Wednesday — qualified in two of those events at a season-opening tri meet against host Greater Atlanta Christian and Providence Christian Nov. 7 when she won both the 500 free with a time of 5 minutes, 25.90 seconds – surpassing the state qualifying time of 5:40 – and the 200 IM at 2:15.42 – bettering the cut time of 2:24.
She went to qualify for the 200 free at a dual meet against host Lovett Nov. 13, winning that event with a time of 2:05.51 – swimming faster than the state cut time of 2:07.
Charron finished seventh in both the 200 IM and 100 free as a junior last year, while placing eighth in the 200 IM and 16th in the 500 free in 2012 and 14th in both the 200 IM and 500 free in 2011.
“Kathleen is one of my captains this year for the team,” Holy Innocents’ swimming coach Andy Morrison said. “She is a leader in and out of the pool. She helps settle some of the nerves of the new swimmers and leads them in the pool by example with a good work ethic. She will be missed by her coaches and fellow swimmers this year. I wish her the best of luck in her college career.”
