Dalton Wilson was a key player on defense as a linebacker for St. Pius X in its drive to the Class AAA state finals last year.

The 5-foot-11, 223-pound junior is now making his mark on the offensive side of the ball after being moved into the starting fullback position to replace the graduated Ryan Braswell this season.

Wilson, who led the Golden Lions in tackles in 2012, is the team’s leading rusher with 816 yards on 128 carries and 13 touchdowns and also leads in all-purpose yards (873) and scoring (78 points).

He is still playing a big role defensively at linebacker, where he has recorded 12.5 tackles and three quarterback sacks for a loss of 25 yards.

Wilson helped lead St. Pius to a 31-21 victory over Hart County in the first round of the Class AAA state playoffs Nov. 15, rushing for 138 yards on 24 carries and a touchdown, while getting four tackles and two sacks for a loss of 18 yards.

“One thing Dalton brings is a tremendous air of toughness,” St. Pius coach Paul Standard said. “He’s kind of a typical fullback/linebacker player, a throwback player. Dalton is a tough, hard-nosed young man and a team leader.”
