Grant Haley has had many big performances for Lovett during his outstanding high school football career.

The 5-foot-10, 185-pound senior running back/cornerback added yet another one to his personal highlight reel as he led the Lions to a dramatic, come-from-behind 35-33 victory over Laney in the quarterfinals of the Class AA state playoffs Nov. 29.

Haley, a Vanderbilt commitment, rushed for 219 yards and scored four touchdowns — including a 57-yard run with 6:09 remaining in the game that proved to be the winning score for Lovett, which came back from a 20-7 halftime deficit.

He also scored on a 56-yard run and an eight-yard pass reception in the third quarter as well as a 35-yard carry in the second period.

It has been an outstanding senior season for Haley, who led the team in rushing with 1,300 yards on 112 carries (11.6 per game) and 20 touchdowns as well as total yards (332) coming into the Lions’ semifinal game with Brooks County last Friday.

“Grant has put this team on his back and has carried us to where we are right now,” Lovett coach Mike Muschamp said. “I think he is the best high school football player in the state of Georgia. The Laney game is just another example of his ability to make great things happen.”
