It appears Sullivan wasn’t finished, however, as he saved his best for last at the Foot Locker Southeast Regional meet in Charlotte, N.C., Nov. 30.
Sullivan finished the race with a personal-best time of 15 minutes, 49 seconds to finish 82nd out of 318 runners from across the Southeast in the prestigious event that serves as a qualifier for the Foot Locker Nationals, which will be in San Diego, Calif., Saturday.
While falling short of the top-10 finish needed to qualify for the national event, Sullivan still made history as the first Mount Pisgah runner to break the 16-minute mark in a 5K (3.1-mile) race.
“Shane has been one of our most diligent athletes and a sub-16 time in cross country is not possible without consistency in year-round training and a willingness to put in the high mileage,” Mount Pisgah Christian cross country coach Susan Reilly said. “We are so proud of Shane and his stellar senior season.”
