Good Growth DeKalb will have its second of its monthly winter rallies at the six-way intersection of Scott Boulevard, North Decatur and Medlock roads Friday, from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

On Oct. 31, Judge Tangela Barrie issued an order in Good Growth DeKalb’s lawsuit against DeKalb County, which arose from the planned redevelopment of Suburban Plaza shopping center that includes the construction of a Walmart. The organization does not agree with the court’s order, which denies its right to challenge the issuance of a building permit through the Technical Board of Appeals.

As a result, the organization said it is considering its legal options including an appeal.

“At issue here is not only the question of Suburban Plaza, but also the rights of any affected citizen in DeKalb to ask that the county follow its own laws in issuing building permits,” said Louise Runyon, co-chair of the organization.

Bill Wertz, spokesman for Walmart, said, “It’s a shame that once again a small group is trying to block a project that offers such clear benefit to so many in the community. Our aim is to bring jobs and more affordable prices to DeKalb County, and it would be unfortunate if our plans are delayed still further.”
