During Cedar Grove’s 6-0 start to the season, sophomore Jacara Cross has been filling up the stat sheet.

The 6-foot-6 forward has not only averaged 10 points and five rebounds a contest but four blocks and three steals.

“I try to do the best I can on the court,” Cross said. “I don’t try to do too much. I like playing defense more than anything because you can get your offense from defense.”

“I think his contributions have been tremendous but I think he will be the first to tell you that he is not playing up to the caliber that he needs to,” Cedar Grove boys’ basketball coach James Martin said. “He’s very exceptional to be a sophomore and to be able to do the things he can do on the floor.”

Last week when asked about his best game so far, Cross spoke of the 46-42 victory against St. Pius on Dec. 3.

“Our other big man fouled out and I had to play against Nick Harris,” said Cross of the 6-foot-10 College of Charleston commit. “We battled back and forth the whole game. That was a tough game.”

Cross finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, a season-high seven blocks and three steals.

Also a member of the Atlanta Select AAU team, Cross has a 3.3 grade-point average.
