In the opener of her last few games against Southwest DeKalb, Tucker senior Naima Jackson had an outing to remember. Due to a combination of short jumpers and fast-break layups, Jackson registered a game-high 22 points in a 73-64 home win over Southwest DeKalb on Dec. 17.

“I attribute a lot of my success tonight to my teammates,” Jackson said. “They were finding me on the court and I just hit the open shot.”

“She had a good night,” Tucker girls’ coach Robin Potter said. “Even early on it seemed like she was feeling it. She came through.”

Jackson, who also had seven rebounds and four assists, seemed to put the ball through the basket every time the Lady Panthers got close.

“I think it was a good win for our team,” said Jackson, who shot 8-of-11 from the field. “It shows that we’ve been working hard throughout the season.”

Next year, Jackson will continue to play basketball at Winthrop with Nuba Jackson, her twin sister. Naima Jackson has a 3.9 grade-point average and plans to major in genetic engineering.

“We chose Winthrop because it had an excellent academic environment,” Naima Jackson said. “We could respect the fact that the college held a certain academic stature which was up to our standards.”

Nuba Jackson has a 4.1 grade-point average.
