In the Strong Rock Christian Christmas Basketball Tournament on Dec. 19, Spencer, who is 5-foot-1, displayed her quickness and impressive passing ability while helping the Lady Chargers defeat Northgate 50-32.
“She’s definitely a standout when it comes to her ball handling,” ELCA coach Andy Whitlock said. “She presents some definite matchup problems when teams try to defend us because of her quickness and ability to handle the ball.”
Along with 12 points, Spencer also finished with six assists and her best pass came in the fourth quarter on the break when she threw the ball around her back to Abigail Rogers, who had 15 points and 12 rebounds, for a layup and a 39-27 lead with 6:56 left.
“I practice those passes in practice with my teammates so they are ready in the game if it happens,” said Spencer, who also made four steals and blocked three shots.
Then, Spencer scored the next basket by making a spin move around her opponent before converting a layup.
“Sydney struggled a little bit offensively in the first half but she got it going,” Whitlock said. “I thought her defense was fantastic as well.”
Spencer wants to continue making highlight worthy plays on a college basketball court as well.
