On Dec. 21 at Pope High, Maguire, who was named Most Outstanding Player along with Armel Potter, scored 15 points to help the Golden Lions defeat the Yellow Jackets 58-55.
“It was an honor and [Armel Potter] is an incredible player,” Maguire said. “I know he’s going to Florida Atlantic. He had a great game today. It was an honor to be mentioned alongside him.”
Maguire, a proficient shooter from deep, made four 3-pointers to somewhat counter Potter’s 25 points. Nick Harris helped out as well with 10 points, which were mostly earned in the paint.
“We count on Will and Nick every night and they step up usually every night,” St. Pius coach Aaron Parr said. “I’m really proud of those two guys this year.”
“Nick gets doubled in the post a lot because he is an incredible force,” Maguire said. “So anytime he gets doubled, we’ve been working to find the open guy.”
Maguire, who is listed at 6-foot-2, wants to continue knocking down 3-point shots in college and is considering Oglethorpe, Birmingham Southern, Centre and Rhodes.
He also has a 3.4 grade-point average and plans to major in business or creative writing.
