Located at 2665 Buford Highway, the new, 16,268-square-foot headquarters will include evidence rooms, interview offices, locker rooms, squad rooms, a holding cell, crime laboratory and court clerk’s office.
The 59-officer department launched in July, shortly after Brookhaven gained cityhood.
“The police department has been operating out of two temporary locations, including the city’s municipal court in Corporate Square and the interim city hall in Dunwoody,” said city spokeswoman Megan Matteucci.
The decision to relocate to the Buford Highway location occurred after a unanimous vote by city council.
The police department’s command staff began moving to the new location Dec. 27 and has posted Facebook updates and photos during the process.
“This move allows us to house all of our officers at a permanent location inside the city limits,” Brookhaven Police Chief Gary Yandura said in a statement. “This location provides excellent access to Interstate 85, as well as other major roadways in the city, and allows us to be open to the public 24 hours a day.”
The Brookhaven Municipal Court will temporarily remain at 2 Corporate Square, Suite 125, until renovations are complete.
The court is expected to relocate in January 2015.
