U.S. Senate candidate Karen Handel and Georgia governor candidate John Barge are scheduled to speak to the Paulding County Republican Party Saturday at 9 a.m. at Chicken World, 4109 Jimmy Lee Smith Parkway, Hiram, in the Academy Sports Shopping Center.

Handel has served as Georgia secretary of state and Fulton County Commission chairwoman and was a candidate for governor in 2010.

Barge was elected as state school superintendent in 2010 after serving as an administrator for Bartow County Schools.

The party also is asking for support for its Backpack Program. It is sponsoring 18 students and is in need of instant oatmeal, fruit cups, crackers, canned pasta, fruit snacks and juice boxes.
