The 6-foot-2 center/forward has certainly proved she belongs on college basketball’s highest level in her final high school season, averaging 11 points and eight rebounds a game to help lead the Lady Bears to a 12-0 record as of last Friday.
Cassell especially stepped up big with 17 points and 14 rebounds to lead Holy Innocents’ to a 65-28 victory over Landmark Christian Jan. 4.
She also had 11 points and six rebounds to help guide the Lady Bears to a 64-26 win over Lakeview Academy in the finals of the Swirlee’s Fro-Yo Classic holiday tournament at East Jackson High School in Commerce Dec. 30.
Cassell was named to the Atlanta Tip-Off Club’s preseason All-Metro Atlanta team in November.
“Lexii is having a tremendous season on the court for us,” Holy Innocents’ girls’ basketball coach Tony Watkins said. “However, I am most proud of her improved maturity and leadership contributions this year. The sky is the limit for Lexii. She is very good now, but I think her best basketball is still ahead of her.”
