The all-day event is split into a family friendly festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and an evening reception from 6 to 10 p.m. for adults. Proceeds will go to benefit the early autism detection unit at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s Forsyth location.
“This unit can now detect autism in kids as young as 2 months old,” said Mandy White, co-founder of Children’s Charities, along with Lauren Holmes. “Generally you get diagnosed between 4 and 5 [years old], and at that point socialization skills in children are already formed. If you can teach a brain to think differently or to see the world different, it’s going to make a dramatic effect on how [autistic children] grow up.”
White hopes to raise $50,000 for the unit with the proceeds from the event.
“I hope [attendees] have a great time, but more importantly I hope they learn something about autism [and] learn something about how the community can help each other.”
The daytime festival will include an ice sculpting competition, food trucks, a bonfire with s’mores, music, inflatables, a magician and access to the nature center. The evening festivities will include the reveal of the Atlanta Ice Marvels’ 12-foot ice sculpture, food, cocktails, live music from the Stephen Lee Band and the lighting of a 10-foot ice torch.
Tickets are $10 for the day event, $35 for the evening reception or $45 for an all-day pass. The all-day pass also includes a private meet and greet with the Atlanta Ice Marvels from 5 to 6 p.m., a private reveal of the giant ice sculpture and a special cocktail hour.
The nonprofit’s last fundraising focus was for an emergency transport vehicle dedicated for the health care system’s Forsyth location. White personally understands the benefits of the emergency transport vehicle. She said her daughter was revived inside one when she suffered from a staph infection in her bloodstream at age 13.
“We raised money for it and along with some other great donations … that unit is now there,” White said.
