Ambassador Ido Aharoni, consul general of Israel in New York, will be in metro Atlanta this weekend to update those interested in matters concerning the Jewish state.

Aharoni is scheduled to deliver his briefing, Ancient Land. Brand (New) Israel, Sunday at Congregation Or Hadash in Sandy Springs. The event kicks off the annual Jewish National Fund’s 2014 Community Conversation series.

“The objective is to broaden the conversation about Israel and expose the full reality of the people in Israel to the people of Atlanta,” Aharoni said via email from Israel last week.

Aharoni officially assumed the post of consul general of Israel in New York in February 2011, after having served in an interim role since the previous August.

Organizers of Sunday’s public information session point to Aharoni’s brand management expertise as the former head of Israel’s Brand Management Team as being among his chief credentials.

“Ambassador Aharoni is a senior spokesman for the state of Israel,” said Jewish National Fund Southeast Director Beth Gluck. “The combination of his marketing background and political acumen provides for very interesting insight into Israel’s position in the world.

“So, we expect that attendees will come away with a better understanding of how the perception of Israel through the eyes of the global community will affect the threats and opportunities in the coming year.”

Aharoni is scheduled to begin his lecture at 10:30 a.m. Jewish National Fund Israeli Emissary Ezra Ravins’ discussion on current social issues in Israel is set to start 30 minutes prior.

“Aharoni is the Jewish National Fund’s first speaker in what we hope will be an annual community conversation about Israel,” Gluck said.
