Brian Domenico, President and CEO of POWER SHOWCASE, thought Paideia junior John Michael Boswell would perform well at the organization’s eighth annual home run derby.

But Domenico didn’t know he was inviting the next world champion, which Boswell became on Jan. 5 at Marlin Park in Miami.

“To accomplish something like this for the people back home is a dream come true,” said Boswell after winning the tiebreaker against Canada’s Wylie Johnston. “The first day I noticed I was the only underclassmen from Georgia and I wanted to do it for my hometown and for my state.”

Boswell sealed the title with home runs of 381 and 421 feet.

“I think I am considered a power hitter but I like to be considered as a hitter with some power,” said Boswell, who plays catcher. “I just want to be a solid, complete hitter.”

Last season for the Pythons, Boswell batted .390 with four home runs and nearly 20 RBI. His pop time was 2.0 seconds and velocity was in the range of 72-76 miles per hour.

This season Paideia hopes to rebound from a tough season, while welcoming new coach Millard Dawson.

“He’s come in and done all the right things for us,” Boswell said. “He has helped me a ton.”

As far as college, Boswell has already verbally committed to play at Furman.
