Local wrestling teams compete at Prep Slam

A number of local wrestling squads competed against some of the best teams from across the Southeast at the prestigious Prep Slam tournament, which was held at Holy Innocents’ last weekend.

Marist was the top local finisher in the 35-team field with a 10th-place showing. Lovett placed 12th, followed by Woodward (13th), host Holy Innocents’ (15th), Westminster (16th), St. Pius X (18th) and Mount Vernon Presbyterian (24th).

Holy Innocents’ wrestler Rod Davis won the 195-pound weight class, while Marist’s Kenneth Brinson was the winner at 220 pounds.

Woodward’s Chandler Pyke was runner-up at 145, while Holy Innocents’ wrestler William Morton and Westminster’s Davis Houk were third-place finishers at 182 and 160 respectively.

Other local placers were fourth-place finishers Patrick Keough (170) and Darby Henagan (285) of Lovett, fifth-place finishers Reed Balser of Westminster (106), Owen Penn of Holy Innocents’ (152) and Brandon Johnson of Woodward (195) and sixth-place finishers Max Pastor of Woodward (126), Dalton Scoggins of St. Pius (160) and George Gavalos of Mount Vernon (170).
