Niko Stines enjoyed a strong freshman swimming season at North Atlanta last year with an eighth-place finish in the Class A-AAAAA boys’ 200-yard freestyle at the state swimming and diving championships.

The sophomore is now looking to make an even bigger impact at this year’s state meet at Georgia Tech after earning qualifying times in five events — the 200 freestyle (1 minute, 52.27 seconds), the 200 individual medley (2:04.07), the 50 freestyle (22.90 seconds), the 100 butterfly (54.41 seconds), the 100 free (50.05 seconds) and the 500 free (5:01).

He is also part of North Atlanta’s state-bound 200 medley and 400 free relay teams.

Stines put together a strong performance at the Madeline Brown Invitational at Emory University Dec. 14, recording his state-qualifying times with his third-place finish in the 200 IM and fourth-place showing in the 100 butterfly.

“Niko is really focused on achieving his goals and swimming better times,” North Atlanta coach Star Brackin said. “He had a very good year last year as a freshman and he’s swimming very well again this year.”

Stines is also a member of the Swim Atlanta club team.
