The Chapel Hill boys’ basketball team had a difficult start to this season’s campaign, dropping seven of its first eight games. However, the Panthers have rebounded with eight wins in their last 13 contests, including four consecutive region victories led by junior Efe Balfour.

The forward has been the leading scorer for Chapel Hill and posted 23 points in the team’s 66-57 victory over Callaway on Jan. 21.

“Efe is an extremely hard worker on the court and has made tremendous strides in his academic performance which I’m extremely proud of,” head coach Lee Wilson said. “He leads well by example and has placed himself in a great position to be recruited for the next level.”

Balfour attributes his individual success to work off the court.

“I worked on becoming more focused on the mental aspect of the game,” he said. “I’ve grown with my teammates and we’ve been playing well as a team.”

Outside of school, Balfour has played for the West Georgia Prep AAU team and plans to pursue a career in dentistry upon entering college.

The Panthers are only two games out of first place in Region 4-AAA and still have a chance to win the region regular-season championship.

“We want to win the rest of our regular season games and compete well in our region tournament,” Balfour said.

Chapel Hill returns to action on Friday against Rockmart.
