Foreman, a Douglas County resident, was named the 2014 Gatorade Georgia Girls’ Cross Country Athlete of the Year and qualified for the national honor. The sophomore completed a stellar 2013 season which included winning the Georgia High School Association Class A girls’ championship in November.
Foreman proceeded to place eighth at the Foot Locker South Regional championships and ran in the national competition in San Diego, Calif., finishing 32nd. She was named the Runner of the Year by the Atlanta Track Club
“I’m excited to receive the Gatorade nomination as a sophomore,” Foreman said. “It’s a big honor and I’m very thankful.”
Foreman, who trains with the Peachtree City Flash running club, has begun training for the upcoming track season and plans to run races in the one-mile and two-mile distances.
Dobbs, a Douglasville resident and freshman outside hitter for the Landmark volleyball team, has been selected as one of the 25 finalists for the 2013 PrepVolleyball.com National High School Freshman of the Year. She’s the only finalist from the state of Georgia and one of two players from the Southeast.
Dobbs helped lead the War Eagles to 34 wins and a second-round appearance in the state playoffs this past season. She finished the year with 475 kills while adding 375 digs and 48 blocks. Dobbs, who plays club volleyball for A5 in Roswell, was named to the All-Region and All-State team.
“This season, I learned that you have to have a strong work ethic and make others better around you,” Dobbs said.
Despite the school’s location in Fairburn, the Douglasville community has been well represented within Landmark Christian.
“It’s good to have people from the same area come together,” Dobbs said.
Both athletes will learn the fate of their national awards later this month.
